IB courses require students to complete both
internal and external assessments.
Internal assessments are papers or projects done as part of the course work and scored by the teacher using the IB scoring guide. The teacher's scoring is then externally moderated: samples of the student work scored by the teacher are sent to an external site along with scores for the entire class.
External assessments are exams given at the end of a course but sent to an expert assessor at a scoring site in one of more than 100 countries that have participating IB schools. All student work is evaluated against the same international standard for each exam.
